National Weather Service Pocatello ID
557 PM MDT Sat Jul 26 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Daily, isolated to scattered shower and thunderstorm chances
will continue through the weekend in the Central Mountains
east along the Montana Divide, peaking in coverage each
afternoon/evening. Isolated thunderstorms in southwest
mountains this evening.
- Conditions will remain very dry outside of any showers or
storms, supporting elevated fire weather conditions due to a
combination of low relative humidity and breezy winds.
- Will see a warming trend early next week beginning Monday.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
Issued at 144 PM MDT Sat Jul 26 2025
Southwesterly flow aloft continues and expect isolated
thunderstorms in the central mountains and southwest mountains
this evening which will end at sunset. Will have similar
conditions Sunday with afternoon and early evening showers and
thunderstorms in the central mountains. Lows tonight in the 40s
and 50s with highs Sunday in 80s mountains and 80s to lower 90s
valleys. Winds will increase Sunday afternoon with some gusts 20
to 25 mph in the Snake River Plain. Lows Sunday night in the 40s
and 50s again.
&&
.LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Issued at 144 PM MDT Sat Jul 26 2025
Will see hotter temperatures Monday through Wednesday. Highs by
Tuesday will reach the mid 90s in many low elevation sites.
Overall in the long term the main impact will be continued
chances of showers and thunderstorms mainly in the mountains
every day through next Saturday. Expect some cooling Thursday
into Saturday but still near or slightly above normal as
moisture increases a bit by mid week. Not expecting significant
winds outside of thunderstorm outflow thorugh next week.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z MONDAY/...
Issued at 557 PM MDT Sat Jul 26 2025
Isolated thunderstorms continue to avoid our TAF terminals, and
midday/early afternoon cloud cover did a good job at helping to
stabilize the spots we were watching for development outside of the
main corridor in the Central Mountains north of KSUN. Will keep
everyone dry this evening with light winds and just a few high-level
clouds drifting through overnight. Thunderstorm potential looks very
similar Sunday afternoon...with the best development near and just
north of KSUN. None of the high-res CAMs offer much confidence in
development right over KSUN so far, so will maintain a dry forecast
with just some mid-level convective cloud buildups for the KSUN and
KBYI TAFs (SCT090-SCT100). Diurnal afternoon winds will increase a
bit on the early side (16-17z/10-11am at all sites) at speeds very
similar to today out of the WSW (maybe slightly breezier due to less
stabilizing cloud cover), except the normal diurnal cycle at KSUN.
Confidence is moderate and growing in VFR conditions regionwide with
no major aviation concerns, especially outside of KSUN and the
Central Mountain region. Also evaluated smoke trends including
contributions from the Summit Fire south of KBYI, but the HRRR smoke
model does not advertise significant degradation anywhere and
confidence is very low in any terminal dropping below 10SM, so no
need for inclusion in the forecast at this time.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 144 PM MDT Sat Jul 26 2025
Isolated to widely scattered mainly dry thunderstorms are expected
to develop today across zones 475, 476, and the northern portions of
zone 422. A few of the storms may impact the far northern portions
of zones 410 and 411. Gusty outflow winds 40-45 mph remain the main
threat, and stronger storms may be able to produce brief heavy rain.
Similar conditions are anticipated Sunday. Very dry humidities remain
in place at the surface, and gusty winds are expected to produce
near critical conditions at times during afternoon peak heating.
Not much change is anticipated for early in the week with isolated
thunderstorms remaining possible across the central mountains and
along the Divide. Temperatures do warm slightly, and afternoon
humidities are expected to range in the low teens and single digits
for many areas. We could be seeing gusty conditions continue in the
afternoon as well for near critical conditions. A deeper monsoonal
push is still expected for mid-week and beyond, but models are still
having a difficult time resolving how thunderstorms may develop
across the region. For now, there is at least a threat for isolated
to widely scattered thunderstorms across higher terrain regions in
East Idaho for Wednesday and beyond.
